Venezia Sack Giovanni Stroppa After Six Consecutive League Defeats

Venezia FC have parted ways with head coach Giovanni Stroppa following a disappointing start to their Serie A campaign. The decision was announced on Tuesday morning, shortly after a 3-1 defeat to Atalanta extended the club’s losing streak to six consecutive league matches. Stroppa had previously guided Venezia to promotion from Serie B, but the team’s struggles in the top flight ultimately cost him his position. The club acknowledged his commitment and professionalism during his time in charge.

Venezia’s poor results have raised serious concerns about their ability to compete in Serie A this season. The team have managed just one victory in eight matches across all competitions, including a narrow 3-2 win over Serie B side Modena in the Coppa Italia. Their cup campaign ended with a subsequent defeat to Udinese, adding to the disappointment surrounding the club’s recent performances. With results failing to improve, the management decided that a change in leadership was necessary.

Defensive problems have been a major factor behind Venezia’s difficult start. The team conceded 16 goals across their first six league matches, leaving them with one of the worst defensive records in the division during that period. Their inability to contain opposing attacks has placed additional pressure on the squad and coaching staff, while the series of defeats has made the fight for survival increasingly challenging.

Attention has now turned to finding Stroppa’s replacement, with Paolo Zanetti and Davide Nicola emerging as potential candidates. Both managers could bring valuable experience and a fresh approach as Venezia attempt to recover from their poor form. Their next fixture against Napoli on Saturday, October 17, is particularly important, as the club will be eager to respond positively and avoid allowing their difficult run to continue.

Stroppa’s departure makes him the fourth managerial casualty of the season, following the dismissals of Fabio Grosso at Fiorentina, Domenico Tedesco at Bologna, and Carlos Cuesta at Parma. The growing number of coaching changes highlights the pressure facing managers in Italian football when results fall below expectations. For Venezia, appointing the right successor will be crucial to restoring confidence, improving their defensive performances, and keeping their hopes of remaining in Serie A alive.
