Dani Carvajal Joins Getafe in Major Move to Strengthen Their Defence

Getafe have secured the signing of Dani Carvajal on a free transfer, bringing an experienced defender to the club ahead of the new season. The former Real Madrid captain has agreed to a one-year contract after being approached by head coach José Bordalás. His arrival represents a significant addition to Getafe’s squad, particularly as the club looks to improve its defensive stability and competitiveness.

Carvajal is expected to compete for the right-back position alongside Kiko Femenía, while his arrival could allow Andrés García to take on a more attacking role. The Spanish defender may also provide another option at centre-back when Bordalás opts for a formation featuring three central defenders. His versatility gives the coaching staff greater flexibility when selecting the team and adjusting tactics against different opponents.

The move also marks a substantial financial change for Carvajal, who previously earned around €10 million net per year at Real Madrid. His salary at Getafe is expected to be considerably lower, potentially around one-tenth of his previous earnings. Having been without a club since June 30, the defender can continue his career in Madrid without relocating. Bordalás played an important role in persuading him to accept the opportunity.

Beyond his contribution on the pitch, Carvajal is expected to bring valuable leadership and experience to the dressing room. His years competing at the highest level of European football have given him extensive experience in high-pressure matches and major competitions. Getafe will hope his professionalism, competitive mentality, and influence among younger players help strengthen the squad throughout the season.

Carvajal arrives at Getafe with an outstanding record from his time at Real Madrid, where he made 451 appearances and won 27 major trophies. His honours include six Champions League titles, six FIFA Club World Cups, five UEFA Super Cups, four La Liga titles, two Copa del Rey trophies, and four Spanish Super Cups. With such an impressive career behind him, his signing represents a notable milestone for Getafe as they prepare for their upcoming campaign.
