Cherki’s Market Value Soars to €110m as Wirtz Drops to €85m After Contrasting Starts

Manchester City secured a 3-0 away victory over Liverpool in the sixth round of the Premier League last night. Before the match, Score90 shared the market value changes of the two teams' attacking midfielders, Florian Wirtz and Rayan Cherki. Both players joined their respective clubs last summer, but their career trajectories have been dramatically different.

During last summer's transfer window, Manchester City spent €36.5 million to sign Cherki, whose market value at the time stood at €45 million. Liverpool, meanwhile, splashed out a massive €125 million to sign Wirtz, who was valued at €140 million at the time.

Since then, the two young midfielders have followed very different paths. Last season, Wirtz struggled to deliver performances that justified his hefty price tag. He made 49 appearances for Liverpool, scoring seven goals and providing nine assists. Cherki also experienced some ups and downs, but overall, he continued to improve. He featured in 56 matches for Manchester City last season, recording 11 goals and 16 assists.

Wirtz has shown little sign of improvement this season, managing just one assist and no goals in seven appearances so far. Cherki, on the other hand, has enjoyed a breakthrough campaign. With five goals and two assists in nine appearances, he has emerged as Manchester City's second-highest goalscorer.

In last week's Transfermarkt market value update, Cherki's valuation rose to €110 million, making him the latest player to join the €100 million club. Wirtz's market value, meanwhile, continued to plummet, falling to €85 million.
