Bangladesh Seek Revenge Match Against Indonesia After 2-9 Defeat

Bangladesh have expressed interest in facing Indonesia again following the Garuda squad’s impressive victory in the 2026 FIFA ASEAN Cup. The Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) is exploring the possibility of arranging a rematch after Indonesia defeated Bangladesh 9-2 at the Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium in Jakarta. The proposed fixture could give both teams another opportunity to test their strengths on the international stage.
BFF President Tabith Awal has reportedly held discussions with several officials, including representatives of the Indonesian Football Association (PSSI), regarding a potential rematch. The game could take place in either Bangladesh or Indonesia, although no official agreement has been announced. The proposal comes after Indonesia secured the tournament title on October 5, 2026, following their dominant performance against Bangladesh on October 1.
Indonesia currently have one available slot during the November 2026 FIFA Matchday period. Their scheduled fixture against Jordan is set to take place between November 9 and 17, leaving room for another international match. Bangladesh could become a potential opponent, but the schedule and venue remain undecided. If the match cannot be arranged in November, both teams may consider meeting during the March 2027 international window.
The possible rematch would also provide Indonesia with valuable preparation ahead of the 2027 AFC Asian Cup, scheduled for January 15 to February 8, 2027. Head coach John Herdman is continuing to assess his squad while monitoring players who are recovering from injuries. Mees Hilgers, Marselino Ferdinan, Miliano Jonathans, and Adrian Wibowo are among the players he hopes to have available, alongside other potential additions to the national team.
With the Asian Cup approaching, Indonesia are working to strengthen their squad and finalize their international schedule. A rematch against Bangladesh could offer another opportunity to evaluate the team’s performance and test different tactical approaches before the continental competition. However, until the relevant football associations confirm the arrangements, the proposed fixture remains a possibility rather than an officially scheduled match.
