AC Milan Eye £43 Million-Rated Alex Scott as Potential Successor to Luka Modric

AC Milan have reportedly identified Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott as a leading candidate to replace Luka Modric as they begin planning for the future of their midfield. According to Corriere dello Sport, as reported by SempreMilan, the Italian club is considering the 22-year-old Englishman as a long-term option. Bournemouth are believed to value Scott at around €50 million, making the potential transfer a significant investment for the Rossoneri.
Modric remains an important figure despite being 41 years old, but his contract is due to expire at the end of the season. His future at Milan remains uncertain, with the Croatian veteran yet to decide whether he will continue playing beyond the current campaign. The club's management is therefore assessing several possible replacements, focusing on players who can maintain the team's technical quality and competitiveness over the coming years.
Scott has emerged as an attractive option thanks to his energy, technical ability, and versatility in midfield. The Bournemouth player could fit into Ruben Amorim's tactical system as part of a double pivot or operate in a deeper role as a regista, depending on the team's formation. His ability to contribute to build-up play while maintaining the intensity of midfield operations is believed to make him a suitable candidate for Milan's evolving squad.
However, the reported €50 million asking price could complicate negotiations. Milan have already committed substantial sums to their recruitment plans, including €75 million for Gonçalo Ramos and more than €50 million for Diego Moreira. Despite these investments, the club could still explore the possibility of signing Scott if the right opportunity arises. Any potential deal would require careful consideration of Milan's budget and broader transfer priorities.
Competition from Premier League clubs could also make the pursuit more challenging, with Arsenal and Chelsea reportedly monitoring Scott's situation. No agreement has been reached, and Milan are understood to be keen to avoid leaving their midfield plans until the final stages of the transfer window. While Modric's eventual decision remains a key factor, Scott represents a possible long-term solution if Milan choose to invest in a younger generation of midfielders. For now, the reported interest remains at the exploratory stage, with several important decisions still to be made before a transfer can materialise.
